A temple for Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy under construction at Vanamvari Kistapuram in Khammam district. — VANAMVARI KISTAPURAM (KHAMMAM Dt.): The tiny village of Vanamvari Kistapuram in Mundigonda mandal is agog with activity, as denizens are engaged in building an ‘alayam’ (temple) for their loved one – late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The village was once a stronghold of the Communist parties.
Community needs The village, which is part of the Muttaram gram panchayat, was the major beneficiary of over Rs. 2 crores spent on fulfilling community needs such as construction of roads and water supply. Many families had individual benefits such as loan waiver, sanction of Indiramma houses and medical assistance under Arogyasri. While a few persons grieving the death of Rajasekhara Reddy went into a state of despair in the neighbouring pockets, the residents of Vanamvari Kistapuram resolved to prove themselves to be different and their collective decision favoured construction of a monument. Contributions poured in, mainly from the farmers and farm workers, and they all embarked upon the construction of the temple. Kotapalli Swamy, a sculptor from Krishna district, was drafted for the special assignment.
The whole community was working day and night to get the structure completed in a record time for installing the statue of the late chief minister by Sunday. Government chief whip Bhatti Vikramarka consented to attend the rituals of the first day worship at the temple.
The Ramalayam in the village has over 300 acres of land to support the daily protocol of services as well as the annual upkeep. The temple built for worship of the late chief minister would also be endowed with some land for its regular maintenance, said village sarpanch Apparao, who heads the panels that work on the appointment of priest and mobilisation of resources.
The sarpanch claims that Rajasekhara Reddy was singularly responsible for development of gram panchayat, which was likely to get Nirmal Purashkar this year.
