YSRC protests on Hitec road

Written By news on Friday, June 29, 2012 | 6/29/2012

ysrc_protests_postnoon_newsTrue to their word, the YSRC which has assumed the role of the main opposition after the smashing victory in the by-elections, today began its task in the City in earnest by organising a dharna on the Kukatpally-Hitec City road to protest the protracted work of the railway over bridge that results in massive gridlocks on this arterial road.
Scores of the YSRC workers and supporters joined the protest that blamed government apathy to a major mass issue. This railway over bridge planned in 2007 and pledged to be completed in nine months by the HMDA has already consumed three more years and the completion is still nowhere in sight, the YSRC leaders alleged.
“It’s a challenge to the people,” declared Rahul Reddy, a supporter of the YSRC who was lustily cheering the protesters. “Commuters to Hitec City from Kukatpally are facing serious traffic jams everyday,” he pointed out. The situation has become worse for commuters with the onset of monsoons. The traffic police are also closing the way completely when there is heavy rainfall forcing commuters to take the longer alternate routes through Hafeezpet.”
“I get late for work everyday. It takes almost 40 minutes to travel 2 km on my bike. Even with a light shower, there is water logging which results in chaotic traffic during rush hour. I do not know what the government has been doing for the last 10 days. They should at least take the necessary steps to get water logging sorted so that commuters will not face long traffic jams,” said Mohd Razdan, a techie who regularly commutes via this road.
The Lok Satta party, under whose constituency the area falls, had earlier blamed both the railway authorities and the HMDA officials for the mess. The party leader Jayaprakash Narayan regretted that despite revising the budget to build the bridge, the project was dragging along endlessly.
