Everybody wants a share of the YSR legacy. Not to be outdone by the Congress, Naidu is also trying to walk in the footsteps of Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy.Chandrababu has now taken a complete u-turn and is now talking about free power supply scheme for the agricultural sector, Arogyasri and other schemes, which were a part of Dr. YSR's welfare-driven governance. It is important to recall that he had criticized all these schemes publicly all through YSR's tenure. Not a day would pass when he would not fly hammer and tongs at free power supply to farmers, Arogyasri or Indiramma Housing. However, suddenly we find him endorsing all the schemes that Dr. YSR had initiated and that he is in agreement with them.
He has borrowed yet another leaf from YSR's book and is setting out on a padayatra starting from October 2. Chandrababu thinks he has the charisma and appeal of Dr. YSR! Obviously, he hasn't learnt any lessons from the recent by-polls held three months ago.
Added to all this, his son Lokesh is being anointed as the TDP General Secretary. Lokesh will oversee the arrangements and logistics of his father's padayatra. He is all set to take over the reins of the the party at the TDP headquarters at NTR Bhavan.
In view of these developments, a two-day statewide conference scheduled for September 11, 12 has now been postponed. Lokesh will be formally anointed the heir, following his appointment as General Secretary in the next such state-wide conference. Interestingly, Lokesh's chambers are getting ready at NTR Bhavan. Sources from NTR Bhavan, anonymously, said that the first floor of the chamber used in the past by Chandrababu, was now being remodeled for the new secretary.
Meanwhile, the Congress leaders with all their vilification of Dr. YSR on one side have rediscovered him and are beginning to invoke his name. Suddenly, we find YSR's statues being garlanded by people like Botsa and Danam Nagender and praising him to high heavens! We know all that Botsa has been saying up until now. Nagender went to the extent of saying that he would reveal everything that took place in closed-door cabinet meetings, if protection was given to him.
Whether it's the TDP or the Congress, everybody wants to emulate Dr. YSR even while denigrating him. They know that they cannot win on their own steam and will have to endorse his schemes, while trying to project them as their own.
