Vijayamma takes Bhongir and Sharmila Anantapur by storm

Written By news on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 | 10/30/2012

A mother and her daughter have set out on a mission to regain the family honour by seeking justice in people’s court and their joy should apparently have touched the brim with the response in Telangana and Rayalaseema regions almost at the same time in the state on Monday.
If there was a sea of humanity at YSR Congress leader Y S Sarmila’s public meeting in Anantapur town, which was organized as part of her Maro Praja Prasthanam padayatra, a similar meeting at Bhongir in Nalgonda district was no less in terms of the turnout of people.
The Bhongir meeting was organised to welcome Yuva Telangana convenor Jitta Balakrishna Reddy and hundreds of his supporters into the YSR Congress.
Interestingly, the Telangana region has witnessed a flurry of activity with all three major political parties – Congress, Telugu Desam and YSR Congress – as their leaders have engaged themselves in meeting people.
While Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has kick-started his three-day Indiramma baata programme in Medak district, Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu resumed his Vastunna Mee Kosam padayatra in Mahbubnagar but it was Vijayamma who stole the show at Bhongir.
Vijayamma has already visited the Telangana districts including Warangal, Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy and will be in Khammam next week. Wherever she went, she was accorded a rousing reception. The response is already leaving the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in jitters and has been looking at various means to curb the growing influence of the YSRC.
Aware of the Telangana sentiment, Vijayamma shared the dais with leaders, mostly from the region like Konda Surekha, K K Mahender Reddy, Vuppunuthala Purushottam Reddy and others. Even the banners that were put up read Jai Telangana and Jai Jagan.

Most part of her speech was devoted to Telangana and the developmental activities taken up by the late Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and how the Telugu Desam and the present Congress governments remained indifferent to the sufferings of the people in the region.
“Dr Rajasekhara Reddy personally wanted people of all three regions to live like a single family, but never opposed Telangana in deference to the wishes of people. Even Jaganmogan Reddy made it clear during the party’s first plenary meeting that YSRC was not against the demand for a separate state,” she recalled.
The Central government, which had the power to create a new state under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, should be held responsible as it was watching like a mute spectator while hundreds of people in the region died for the cause.
“Jaganmohan Reddy even told in Armoor that everyone should live in a peaceful manner and the Telangana will witness development once again after the Centre takes a decision,” she said.
Vijayamma said that Dr Rajasekhara Reddy and his family belonged to the backward Rayalaseema region and they knew the problems of people in Telangana which was also backward.
YSR took several decisions like free power supply, waiver of power dues and crop loans besides taking up Jalayagnam under which several incomplete and pending irrigation projects were taken up. He even sanctioned Rs 1 lakh for the bereaved families of every farmer who committed suicide. But Naidu derided YSR’s demand for compensation to the famers committing suicide saying that they would die for the compensation.
YSR even secured permission from the Centre for the Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project but the present government did nothing to sign the MoU with Maharashtra so far, even though the later came forwards, she alleged. She also recalled that it was her husband who had completed the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project and Ali Sagar and Guthpa in Telangana region.
Vijayamma said that YSRC did not field candidates in the by-elections held in the region in March this year to respect the sentiment of the people.
She lashed out at Chandrababu Naidu for making false promises to the people while he did nothing for their welfare during his nine-year rule and reversed the welfare schemes launched by his predecessor N T Rama Rao. “He is promising the moon to the people only with the intention to come to power, but people will not believe him,” she said.
Even the failure of the Congress government in controlling the spiraling prices of essential commodities had badly affected the people, she added.
Vijayamma’s daughter echoed almost similar political views, except for talking about Telangana, at the mammoth public meeting conducted at Saptagiri Centre in Anantapur. Amid tumultuous response from the lustily cheering crowds, she said that the Congress and the TDP connived to get Jagan implicated in cases and jailed. She narrated the ‘evil designs’ of the two parties in preventing her brother from securing a bail.
