My son Jagan Mohan Reddy, leader of the YSR Congress, is on an indefinite fast in jail against the hasty decision of the Congress Working Committee to divide Andhra Pradesh and create Telangana. Today my party colleagues and I met the President and the prime minister to explain how the Congress has taken such an important decision without properly looking into all aspects — economic, social, administrative, issue of water-sharing, assets and liabilities — and how it could harm people of all regions of Andhra Pradesh... we want justice. We will also hold a protest in Delhi on Wednesday.
What were their responses?
The President gave us a patient hearing. The prime minister was kind enough to meet us in the middle of his Parliament schedule. He recalled his association with my late husband YS Rajashekhara Reddy.
The prime minister told me the Centre will soon set up a Group of Ministers to look into the issues following the CWC decision to create Telangana. I said it is too late. The GoM should have been set up to consult everybody before the decision.
Will your party present its case before the GoM?
We will but that will be of no use.
Why is that?
The decision to create Telangana is for Congress' electoral gains. The party does not bother about the serious problems that decision has created for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
But CWC said even YSR had committed himself to Telangana?
Congress is misusing by husband's name and misrepresenting facts. My husband, while reaching an agreement with TRS in 2004, only said the government will set up a second state re-organisation commission to look into the Telangana statehood issue along with such demands in other parts of the country. Nothing more.
Congress is not going to reverse the CWC decision...
We will mobilise the people to fight against injustice.
Jagan Mohan Reddy is in jail and his funds are drying up...
The most important factor in politics is the support of people, which is only growing for Jagan and YSR Congress. People have seen how the Congress leadership has victimised YSR's son and jailed him. People are giving Jagan and his party the strength to fight back.
What about electoral alliance?
My party colleagues have been meeting parliamentary leaders of all Opposition parties and some UPA constituents, like NCP, to apprise them about the situation in Andhra Pradesh after the Telangana decision. But it had nothing to do with politics related to alliances.
What will be your election strategy?
YSR Congress will have no deal, no pact. Our party will fight every single Lok Sabha and assembly seat in Andhra Pradesh in the coming polls. If Telangana is created by then, we will fight every seat in Telangana as well.
You once said YSR Congress will have no post-poll alliance with BJP. Any change on that stand?
Our stand has always been clear. After the elections, YSR Congress will take decision keeping in mind the foremost interests of the state and the nation. That's all.
