YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has urged the CPI and CPI (M) leadership at the national level to back his cause to keep Andhra Pradesh united.
Mr. Reddy along with a delegation of party leaders met CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury in New Delhi on Saturday making a fervent appeal to national party leaders to oppose bifurcation.
The YSR Congress leader said the Congress appeared to be in a tearing hurry to divide the State out of political expediency, unmindful of the consequences and giving scant respect to the sentiments of the people opposing division of the State.
Mr. Reddy requested these parties to oppose the division and reject the Bill in the Parliament as it reflects the “megalomaniac nature” of the Congress party and ran contrary to the spirit of the federal structure.
Moreover, it was against the voice of the people, 75 per cent of whom wanted the State to remain united.
This resistance should be put up by every political party that believes in democracy and public opinion as this is not the problem of Andhra Pradesh alone, he said and added that he was questioning the dichotomy, arrogance and authoritarianism of the ruling party.
Left leaders Mr. Yechury and Mr. Sudhakar Reddy said they appreciated the efforts of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy in opposing division, a press release said.
